Hello readers! Wanna make extra money in 2016?
Getting right to the point, today I wanted to post about what I believe are the top 10 ways (in no particular order) to make extra money in 2016. These are the ways of the entrepreneurial and business minded; the ways that will help you to significantly boost your income. So without further ado:
- Item Flipping/Thrift Flipping and Selling on Craigslist or E-Bay:
This is a relatively simple and straightforward idea — buying (or obtaining for free) items and selling them for more on E-Bay or Craigslist. Whether you scour the Craigslist Free section for items and then sell them or you buy select items on CL or a thrift store (TVs, electronics, books, anything really) and then sell them for more then you bought them for, ‘flipping’ is a common practice among the young entrepreneurs and home business owners of today. For example, I’ve found a good condition 62′ High Definition TV on the Craigslist Free section and sold it for $100. Other than the cost of gas to pick it up and the few minutes of wiping it down and making it look new, all of that money is straight profit. This is something that can be done with relative ease, at any time of year, and by anyone looking to make extra money in 2016.
2. Freelance Work or the Gig Economy:
Do you have any computer or web skills of any kind? Perhaps you’re a skilled web designer or you’re very good at writing papers? Maybe you have experience in marketing and promotion? Or maybe you have a unique talent or service you can offer others? In either case, the online freelance economy, or “gig economy” has been a booming industry in recent years. With popular websites such as Fiverr that help connect buyers and sellers, it’s now easier than ever to start soliciting your services. For more information on Fiverr, check out our article on how to be successful on Fiverr.
3. Teach What You Know:
We’re all good at something and we all have something that we have a considerable amount of knowledge in. So why not utilize that expertise and teach others what you know for a profit? Or even better; why not teach others what you know for a residual/passive income? The website Udemy gives people the chance to buy and sell courses online. The courses can be about anything and everything that the ‘teacher’ has an expertise in. The best part is once you post your course, you’ll receive income every time someone buys your course. It will always be posted on the website and (if your course is good enough) you’ll be profiting from it for a long time. Check out our article on Udemy to find out more.
4. Start a Monthly Garage Sale:
Another straightforward idea — have a garage sale every month with items around your house you no longer need or use! This can go hand in hand with the first idea we talked about and can prove to be a profitable one, especially if you establish with potential customers that you’ll have new items every month and that you’ll be holding the garage sale every month. Just be sure to price your items appropriately!
5. Monetize Your Favorite Hobby:
We all have hobbies that we enjoy; sports, video games, hiking, shopping, the list goes on. Did you know there are very likely many ways you can monetize each of those hobbies? For example, if you like to shop and want to get paid for it, you can become a Mystery Shopper. Or if you like video games, you can get paid to play different video games or test out new games. It’s important to first identify your hobby and then do a little bit of searching online for different ways to monetize it. No matter your hobby, I’m more than sure that you can make some extra money doing something you already love to do.
6. Uber/Car Service:
By now I’m assuming most of you have heard of Uber, but for those who haven’t: Uber is a transportation network company that provides its users (via an App on your phone) the ability to hire rides to any location for a fee. Uber also allows for people like you and me to work for them to be sub contracted these rides. Started in 2009, it has quickly evolved into a 60 billion dollar business and is one of the more interesting ideas of the “App Generation”. So how can this help you? You can signup to be a driver for Uber (their drivers report making anywhere from $200-$500 a week) OR you can start your very own car service! If you signup through Uber, almost everything is streamlined and setup so that you don’t have to do much but to accept/pick up work in your area. If you start your own car service, it gives you the freedom to make some business cards, put up some Ads, get a few clients at first and build a rapport with them, and before you know it, you’ll have good and steady business!
7. The Ole Child Care Business:
An old school concept that still proves well and provides well for many people is owning a child care business. Now, since we’re primarily talking about ‘extra’ cash as opposed to a full time income (although you can certainly turn most of these ideas into a full time income), you’re looking at not taking on too much here. So let’s say you start a mini child care/daycare business, perhaps for toddlers or little children. If you’re taking care of the child from say normal business hours of 9-5, Monday to Friday, you’re likely looking at charging the client AT LEAST $200/week. If you do that arrangement for only 2 kids, that’s $400/week extra for you! Talk about a way to make extra money in 2016! Now, of course you’ll have to put some of that into snacks for the child and/or activities or something to spruce up your service, but let’s say you take it one step further and have a 3 child day care. At $600/week, with spending maybe $100 that week for the children, you’re profiting $500/week. Not bad, eh?
8. Amazon MTurk:
I’ve explained to a few people about Amazon MTurk, but to best describe them I’ll refer to their own FAQ page:
“Amazon Mechanical Turk is a marketplace for work that requires human intelligence. The Mechanical Turk service gives businesses access to a diverse, on-demand, scalable workforce and gives Workers a selection of thousands of tasks to complete whenever it’s convenient.
Amazon Mechanical Turk is based on the idea that there are still many things that human beings can do much more effectively than computers, such as identifying objects in a photo or video, performing data de-duplication, transcribing audio recordings, or researching data details. Traditionally, tasks like this have been accomplished by hiring a large temporary workforce (which is time consuming, expensive, and difficult to scale) or have gone undone.”
So what you do is get paid for doing a wide variety of online micro tasks, which could be as simple as researching on Google and reporting back some findings or recording some data. You get paid by completing what are called HITs. This is described by Amazon as a “Human Intelligence Task, or HIT, is a question that needs an answer. A HIT represents a single, self-contained task that a Worker can work on, submit an answer, and collect a reward for completing”.
For those wondering if you can be assured you’ll get paid, you’ll note Amazon is a pretty reputable name, so yes! You can and will get paid from this!
9. Write an E-Book and Get Paid Monthly!:
One of my absolute favorite ways to make extra money and a way you can make extra money in 2016 is writing and publishing an E-Book. It is a fun, creative, and very well profitable way to supplement your income. The best part is that you don’t necessarily need to be a great writer; you just need to have a great idea and to work on how you present that idea to the public. After you write your book and have created or designed a book cover design, then you have to set a date for launch and promote it. Now, you can promote it to the best of your abilities, but I can not stress how much this is the biggest step to making your book a success. The amount of (proper) promotion that goes into the project will determine how profitable the project ultimately is. After you’ve promoted your work for some time and your launch day has arrived, you publish it on Amazons’ Kindle or Apples IBooks. Both of these platforms provide plenty of potential customers so long as it’s done right.
Now, I don’t like to plug my services so much into my articles (although maybe I should!), but in this case I would have to. If you are interested in writing and publishing an E-Book and getting paid monthly from it, I encourage you to check out our Services page and/or feel free to contact me with any questions regarding the entire process and project. I will be more than happy to answer any of your questions!
10. Start a Blog:
Here we are in the year 2016 and the concept of a home based business or a blog based business is still thriving. This is one of the best ways to make extra money in 2016. The important thing to note is that the concept of the ‘blog’ and the idea of making money from it started around 1997, so we’re almost 20 years later and it is still going strong and still making people money. If you’re new to blogging, I encourage you to not just hear what I would have to say, but Google “How To Blog For Money” and you will find MANY articles on the subject. The reason I say this is because it is important for you to read not just what would be my article or thoughts on it, but hear a little bit of information from everyone about how to get started. You see what everyone has to say and you learn a little bit from everyone. From there you think to what works for you, what you do or don’t understand, and you put it together.
To this day, millions of people are blogging and making money from it. The amount of income bloggers make ranges from nothing to thousands every month. It’s all about your effort and how much you promote it, because just like an E-Book, promotion is the single biggest and most important detail to making a blog successful and profitable.
As we start this new year and look to improve our finances, it’s a great start to refresh exactly what works for you and what doesn’t. What are you good at and what aren’t you good at. Using your knowledge and expertise online can and will certainly make you more money and provide a stable secondary (if not full time) income for you and your family. Try out some of these ideas and tell me how they have or haven’t worked for you. I’d absolutely love to hear from you and give you my thoughts, opinions, and/or expertise on a topic. I highly encourage you all to e-mail me anytime with any questions or for more information on any of the ideas I’ve discussed. I’m not a big fancy corporation; I will respond to you and I will respond to you within 24 hours. Thanks for reading this article and I hope that some of these ideas help improve your start to the year and to help you make extra money in 2016!
